Cleared vs. Excused
Cleared vs. Excused
Cleared Absences
Cleared absences are those for which academic time was recovered/made up in Saturday School. Clearing absences in Saturday School affects student attendance positively in the following ways:
- Cleared absences count as days present in school, due to the recovery of academic time.
- Cleared absences do not count toward excessive absenteeism, since they do not count as absences.
- Clearing absences in Saturday School reduces individual student absence totals.
- Clearing absences in Saturday School repairs excessive absenteeism for individual students.
Excused Absences
Excused absences are those which occur for reasons considered valid under state law. Unlike absences that are cleared in Saturday School, excused absences count as lost academic time just as unexcused absences do. Excused absences count toward excessive absenteeism.
Following district guidelines, accumulation of more than 14 excused absences is considered excessive and may lead to a student being placed on an attendance contract.
