DISTANCE LEARNING OFFICIALLY BEGINS APRIL 20, 2020.
Asynchronous and Synchronous Distance Learning Models: There will be two possible ways of distance learning, Asynchronous and Synchronous, while schools remain closed.
a. Asynchronous, means not happening at the same time; for example, teachers will deliver content and resources to students via email, video, Jupiter, Google Classroom, etc.
b. Synchronous, means happening at the same time; teachers will be available for students to reach out by email, a Learning Management System, or other communication means. Students and teachers are on the same platform at the same time.
We want to first emphasize that teachers will be providing asynchronous lessons (not in real time). If a teacher chooses to adopt a synchronous (in real time) video distance-learning model, then, the teacher and students will follow the schedule listed below:
Dear Mariner Community,
By now you have heard that the State of California has announced that school buildings will be closed until further notice and this includes Mar Vista High School. I have sent messages via Jupiter Ed. and Infinite Campus since we have closed and I hope you have received them. Our superintendent, Dr. Karen Janney, has sent many messages over the course of the last few weeks keeping the Sweetwater Union High School District staff, students and parents informed as much as possible. You are encouraged to access the district’s website at www.sweetwaterschools.org.
As of Monday, April 6th until April 17th, teachers, counselors and administrators have been engaged in Professional Development opportunities to learn how to engage and connect with students. Online Distance Learning officially begins on Monday, April 20th, 2020. Teachers have been reaching out to students and have had some success to date, but it is very important that all students respond to teachers so we can help students stay current with their learning. We expect the new process for learning will be challenging, but Mar Vista High School is committed to supporting all students’ learning and assisting them academically, socially and emotionally.
Parents, if you need to update your email address, home address or phone number, please email our school Registrar Mrs. Hilda Lazcano. I will continue to send messages with any updates regarding the remainder of the school year. I realize the senior class has many questions and I will share answers as I receive them.
Thank you for reading this message and please continue to stay safe.

Dear Mar Vista Family,

The Spring Sports Assembly that was scheduled for next week has been postponed. We had hoped to celebrate our amazing State and CIF winners at this assembly as well.
Our intention is to celebrate all of our students at a later date. However, our concern for student safety, health, and well-being will be at the forefront of our decision making. We will make informed decisions based upon the recommendations from our school district, state, and CDC. Thank you for your understanding.
Senior softball player Abigail Rivera was named one of the San Diego Union Tribune’s Prep Athletes of the Week. Congratulations, Abby!
