Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,
Welcome to the 2021-2022 new school year! I hope this message finds you well and you had an enjoyable and safe summer. I am looking forward to opening our school doors to all of our students. By now you should have received a letter from the District Office outlining the safety protocols. We are returning to in school instruction. One of the most critical pieces of information to know is masks will still be required for both staff and students while inside the classroom regardless of vaccination status. We will continue to encourage safety protocols to ensure both students and staff are safe such as sanitizing and the washing of hands. We are also encouraging student vaccination.
The first day of school will be Wednesday, July 21st and it will be a minimum day. It will be a 1-7 schedule with 1st period starting at 7:30 AM. Please have your child/children report by at least 7:00 AM to have enough time to find their first period classroom. Period 6 will end at 11:31 AM and period 7 will end at 12:41 PM. The bell schedule and the semester 1 calendar will be sent to all families.
If you have not completed online registration or haven’t submitted residency verification if applicable, please do so before school starts.
During the school year, a weekly newsletter is sent that contains a lot of important information about the school. I highly encourage you to read the weekly newsletter. It is titled The Mariner Times. There is also and APP you can download.
The Mar Vista High School faculty and staff continue to be committed to working with all of you to ensure we remain true to our mission by focusing on student academic achievement and well-being. By continuing to work together we can succeed in fully realizing our school mission of preparing students for post-secondary education and career options by fostering a culture of achievement, developing critical thinking skills across all subjects, instilling a sense of commitment and creating a community where everyone belongs.
Looking forward to making this school year a positive experience!
Yours in education,
Bettina E. Batista

Hello Sweetwater Families,
We will be giving students another opportunity to request courses for the upcoming summer school session. Summer School will be held at all high schools, middle schools, and Independent Study from June 7-June 25, 2021. Students can enroll in up to two classes for acceleration and/or credit recovery. Summer School will start at 8:00 am – 1:30 pm for current 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. Summer school will be distance learning and/or an in person model.
The request window will close on Friday, June 4, 2021. The request window to add requests via the Student/Parent portal is intended for those students who have not made any course requests. For those students that have already made course requests, you will not be able to add new requests or change existing ones. Instead, you will need to contact your school counselor for any changes or additions.
This email includes a link to the summer course request in the Parent Portal below. Please follow the prompt to make your students’ requests. The SUHSD website also provides the link and step by step by step instructions that will support you with this process. Please contact your school for further support.
